Pre vet students get some horse sense

Finley, WA-‚  Students considering becoming veterinarians are getting hands-on experience straight from the horse’s mouth.

Today graduates and current students of the equine science program at River View High School showed pre-vet students the way around a horse from head to tail.

‚  River View is the only school in Washington State that offers a year-round equine science class.

‚  ‚  ‚   Keith Holman teaches the class, which he says is one classroom where a book just doesn’t get the job done.

“A lot of these students own horses or ride horses for fun or competitive,” he says. “So it’s something they enjoy and can take home and use.”

The pre-vet students from Tri-Tech Skills Center learned several critical lessons, such as how to approach a horse and load it in and out of a trailer. They also learned how to administer shots, wrap wounds, and how to groom and shoe the animals.
